Friends 2014

And they say,
"So and so" are now friends.

And we were.
But when grounds were better than walls.
Hearts were connected, fake invitations not at all.
Even public announcements were private.
Poking a friend was so direct.
Tiny letters held the messages.
Sometimes emotions captured in long passages.
A hand drawn face with a crooked smile.
Cleared the misunderstandings held up for a while.
And today with 1000s with us, we feel alone.
So many familiar names but faces hardly known.
Unread messages waiting like nuclear stock piles.
20M requests sent from 200M miles.
Phone numbers lost.. Voices forgotten.
Just in touch with everyone not so important.

I wish I could still go to a park and share a bench.
And in 15 minutes of silence still have the best conversation with my 'friend'.

  1. So beautifully expressed and resonates so well with me. A little suggestion...pick up that phone and call your friend. I did just that a few days back and it felt good.

  2. I rally like the part " 15 minutes of silence still have the best conversation with my 'friend' " and truly believe in that. Its a totally a different feeling all together.

I think you raise valid questions about our lifestyle the way it is today, good or bad, who knows. Friendship, is different to different people, you know. Sometimes, you never know, how much the person sitting 200M miles across the seas, wants to connect with you, and perhaps, even in that universe of 1000's of "friends" on social media, the essence is more like shining like a galaxy of stars, enjoying the chatter, the pics, and the news. Also, the close ones, always, won't have the luxury of time or place to share that bench in the park, but will always cherish, that lil post of yours, that photo that goes up, no matter how good it might be, you always want your close pals to write some idiotic comments, and start a conversation on it.
So, summing up, benches have to coexist with the stars at the night sky, for each holds it presence in an otherwise pale world.
